FEEM SI assesses sustainability across countries over time. It is rooted on the existing sustainable development literature, addressing the need of “going beyond GDP” in the well-being assessment.
FEEM SI analysis is built on the recursive-dynamic computable general equilibrium model ICES-SI that provides a comprehensive picture of the sustainability of countries throughout time. The model calculates the index based on various economic, social and environmental assumptions, thereby providing useful information regarding the effects that different policies have on sustainability.
Besides being grounded in an applied model, this index features methodological advancements in each of its defining construction steps, which are summarised below together with the main novelties of the 2011 release.
